Hello Linda,
I did a little research recently for a Canadian friend who had Turkingtons amongst her ancestors.
The immpression that I got is that the greatest number of Turkingtons lived on the Co. Armagh/Co. Down border in the vicinity of the towns of Portadown and Lurgan. There is also a small Co.Tyrone branch.
If you go to:- www.genseek.net/miss02.htm you should be able to see two little newspaper items from the 1890s which relate to Irish Turkingtons with a Scottish connection.
If you have difficulty finding the site come back to me and I will send you a transcript.

I live in Canada and my grandfather was Pierce Turkington from Tyrone. From what I understand his father was also Pierce My grandfathers mother was Mary Elizabeth Mellan.If anyone has any information please get back to me. I also need to find some 'free' websites to research my irish genealogy. Thanks.
