Ferry Family

Hello, I am new to this forum and would be grateful for any help in finding information about my Ferry family.

Hugh Ferry b. 1874 (according to his age on death certificate) or 1872 (according to his age on the 1901 census of Leith, Edinburgh)

Father: Maurice Ferry who worked as a farm servant. Mother: Bridget McGeady.
That's all the information I have, sorry.

Thanks Moren, I don't know if that's the same family though as it would mean my g-grandfather was 5 years older than what is indicated on the 1901 census and his death certificate.
Still......

Thanks again,

George

Just a thought Moren,
It's possible that the Hugh mentioned died in childhood and as it was quite common in those days for subsequent children to be given the same name as deceased siblings another boy might have been born in 1872 or thereabouts and given the name Hugh.

Hello George
Yes it was common for children to be called after a deceased sibling.
Also worth bearing in mind that birthdays would not have been celebrated back then so people were often out on there birth date.
My own grandfather managed to knock 10 years off his age on his marriage cert.
