Clisham Family : County Mayo - County Leitrim?

Good evening,

I'm trying to obtain further information on my Great, great grandfather John Clisham(1841 - 1894) and his parents. Any further information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Starting with John; my great, great grandfather, I have gathered the following information:

He was born 'in Ballinamore, parish of Outeragh near the town of Leitrim', in 1841 to John (A shoemaker) and Anne Clisham (nee Byrne). His family relocated to Liverpool at some point before the 1851 England Census, where they are shown to be residing in Liverpool, England.

At the time of the 1851 England Census, he was one of four children. the family was as follows:

John Clisham b. 1811
Anne b. 1816
John b. 1841
Timothy b. 1844
Charles b. 1846
Mary b. 1849

However, prior to John's birth, it seems the Clishams may have originated from County Mayo, as the only occurences of both of the surnames Clisham and Byrne together is in County Mayo...in the parishes of Bohola, Drum and Toomore to be precise.

Could anyone check for a potential marriage between John Clisham and Anne Byrne in these location around say 1831 to 1841 please??

It would appear that John then joined the British Army in 1859, and I have recently obtained a copy of his service records. They reveal the following:

A Shoemaker by trade, he joined the 2nd Lancashire Militia, aged 18 in 1859 in Liverpool, after which he signed up with the regular army, and was assigned to the 47th Regiment of Foot in May 1860.

Whilst serving his time in the army, he met and married his wife Ellen Glue in 1876. The marriage certificate states that they were both residing at North Camp, Farnborough (Surrey) at this time.

They went on to have three children; their places of birth coinciding with the movements of the 47th Regiment of Foot.

William John Clisham b. 1878 - St. Heliers, Jersey
Sarah Teresa Clisham b. 1879 - Dublin, Ireland
Mary Ellen Clisham b. 12 February 1880 - Curragh Camp, Kildare. (As cited on the I.G.I. - However, I have located her birth on the Irish BMD Index -same quarter, but her place of registration is listed as Naas???)

Mary Ellen is my Great grandmother. It looks like John left the army in 1885, and is listed as a Shoemaker on the 1891 England census with Ellen and his young family residing at Blackstock Street, Liverpool.

And that's about all the information I have!!!! As I said, I would love to be able to progress this line of my tree further back, and am greatful for any help anyone might be able to offer!!!

Regards

Paul
