Jennifer Thompson	Friday 19 May 2006 6:49:15 pm O'Melia family in Sligo Hello, I am looking for information on the O'Melia family in Sligo. According to my Grandmother, my great grandmother, Bridget(Elizabeth or Bessie)O'Melia was born on December 17-18, 1895 and came from a place in County Sligo called Tubbercurry . On her Ellis Island record in July 1912 she listed "Charlestown" as her place of residence and that her father's name was Thomas. Her Mothers name was Margaret Connelly (Connolly). She had a brother named Thomas that she didnt want to speak of. Apparently he had come into trouble in Ireland. My grandmother thinks that he was wanted by the Brittish for avoiding being drafted into their army. Apparently she had quite a few siblings, but did not speak of them much. Their names were Martin, John, Thomas, Patrick, Margaret (Peggy). Any information on any pieces of the family would be appreciated.

Kerry O'Melia-Gennace	Thursday 10 April 2008 10:54:17 pm O'Melia Just for the fun of it, I thought I'd check this site and see what if anything was showing up concerning the "O'Melia" family. My maiden name is O'Melia. My father was Patrick Joseph O'Melia born to Ellen and William Thomas O'Melia on March 17, 1923. William Thomas O'Melia's place of birth is a bit spotty, some saying Dublin others saying Sligo. Ellen (nee Connolly) O'Melia was definitely from Dingle, County Kerry. William Thomas was thirty (so born around 1880) and she was all of seventeen (so she was born in 1893) when they arrived on Ellis Island. My grandfather's older brother had found him a job as a "brakeman" on the railroad. They were parents to: John, William, Helen, Anne and Patrick. Hope this is helpful to you.
