COCHRAN from NEW ROSS. Watch & Clock Maker mid 1800s

Can anyone tell me about my GREAT GRANDFATHER Hugh COCHRAN from New Ross Co Wexford. in the mid 1800s

Hugh was a Watch and Clock maker, and I believe he was commissioned to make the clock for 'The THOLSEL' (Town hall)????

He evidently lived in South Street New Ross, and he'd made a clock, but realising many people hadn't got clocks or watches he put his newly made clock in his front sitting room window, and as he had a gas lamp outside his house he turned the clock facing outwards,so people passing day or night could see the time.

Can anyone please confirm this story, and also if he did make 'The Tholsel' clock??

I haven't been able to find his name on anything in or around NEW ROSS. but his son SAMUEL was also a watch and clock maker and served his apprentiship at JOHN FEGAN'S Jewelers as I have a copy of his indentures.so please if anyone can find anything about HUGH COCHRAN , anywhere please let me know.

Thanks, Heppy
