Nyhan surname Cork - any help appreciated
I have been trying to find a link in either Cork or Tipperary to the Nyhan family and wonder if you might help, having seen your post. My grandmother was born Mary Nyhan May 20th 1888 in Emly, Tipperary to Timothy Nyhan and his wife (name unknown). She was one of 8 boys and 2 girls. She left at 18 to live in UK with her English soldier husband, Ernest Hewit a Pt. in the Sherwood Forester Reg. Eventually he died and she remarried, Henry Wareham of Sandhurst, Berkshire and had a large family of girls. She died in Sandhurst in 1968 having never returned to Ireland or having contact with any family. This means that her English family have no idea about her Irish family and want to find them and include them in a book I am writing about our family and extended family for our new grandson. Can anyone help me find out about the Nyhan family from Emly - they lived at the lodge on the Emly estate of the Mountmorres (de Montmorency) family as Timothy was a coachman and the family were educated by the family governess. Apparently Mrs Timothy Nyhan was a Great Grandaughter of the Mountmorres (de Montmorency) family through her mother. We keep coming up blanks with the name Nyhan and the Emly connection. Perhaps someone knows about Ernest Hewit her 1st. husband and can link us in that way. any help and any Nyhan connections may help us and You of course. Please RSVP my email. thanks, Susan - granddaughter of Mary Wareham (formerly Hewitt) nee Nyhan of Emly.
