Interpretation of the Irish accent
My question may be unusual, although I can give names and dates, I wish to ask if an Irish person born in Laois in the 1840’s could have been misunderstood by the Registrar in London in the 1880/90s when giving their surname.
With an Irish accent could the surname TYNAN be interpreted as TYLER? The mother’s name shows a mixture of these two names on the childrens GRO birth references.
This is a 6 year old ‘brick wall’
