"Pro Deo et Hibernia" on old rosary
Hello,
I found a rosary that my gr-gr-grandfather brought over from Ireland (Cork, we believe) with the center cartouche/heart inscribed with "Pro Deo et Hibernia" (For God and Ireland). This fellow (Timothy O'Sullivan, m.Ellen O'Neil, had son Daniel Thomas Sullivan in ~1853 Canada and then moved to the USA about the same time) has been my biggest brick wall and at this point I'm trying any avenue to track down where in Cork he could have come from. I googled the phrase and found almost nothing other than a reference to it being on a rosary found in an antique vampire hunting kit (lol). Does anyone know how common this phase, especially inscribed on rosaries, is? I'm wondering if I can use it to place him but I have very little hopes or ways to pursue it. The rosary would be from ~1830s or older I assume. Thank you!
