Patterson connection
My great great grandfather Thomas Maguire (1782-1867) married Lucy Patterson (1806-1875) in 1820 according to the Diocese of Clogher Marriage License Bonds.

I know that Lucy had a brother William. He emigrated with them in 1847 to Canada from Londonderry. Residence before embarkation was Blacklion. Presumably Thomas’ residence.

I have found an LDS record with a Lucy (born 1808) and a William Patterson (born 1794) with siblings John (1790), Edward (1792), Frances (1798), Daniel (1800), Anne (1804), and Margaret (1806). This record suggests the impossible scenario of John Sr. and Margaret (both born 1832) having these children starting in their 58th year, and having their last at age 76. The children’s place of birth is noted as “Millbrook, Sligo”. The townland of Millbrook shows up on the townland database as Co. Donegal, Kilmacrenan barony, Killygarven parish, Millford PLU. There does appear to be a modern area of Sligo town called Millbrook.

This Lucy (of the LDS record) shows in another area as born in 1804 to the same parents, in Millbrook Sligo. And in a third record as being married in Rathmelton, Donegal, Kilmacrenan, Aughnish, Millford in 1818. There is no indication of who she married.

In summary, I have three names that match: Thomas Maguire and Lucy and William Patterson. Lucy’s birthdate is close: 1804, 1806, or 1808. Lucy’s marriage date is close: 1818 or 1820. Neither of these Millbrooks, nor Rathmelton appear to be anywhere near the Diocese of Clogher.

Question 1: Whose children were Lucy, William, John, Edward, Frances, Daniel, Anne, and Margaret?

Question 2: Where were they really born? “Millbrook, Sligo” or Millbrook Donegal?

Question 3: Who did this Lucy Patterson marry?

Question 4: Is this a futile search?

Thanks

Carl
