Murphy/Dougall Cookstown
Hi,
I'm researching my maternal grandfather's line and have recently come across the marriage of my great grandparents at the Orritor Presbyterian Church in Cookstown district. They were; Robert Murphy born c1847 son of Thomas and living at Ballynasollus and Eleanor (Ellen) Dougall born c1851 daughter of Thomas and living at Killycurragh.
They moved to County Durham in England and their first child, Martha was born there in 1871. Their second child, Thomas was born in Cookstown, Tyrone in August 1872 but their other children; Rachel 1876, Robert 1882, John 1885, William 1890 and Joseph 1893, were all born in County Durham, England. This is the earliest info I have on these lines.
As I understand it whilst some of the Murphys and the Dougles remained in Ulster others have scattered to England, Scotland, North America and Australia but I have no knowledge of details and would be grateful if anyone recognises any of the above details and could give me a lead.
Regards
Den

Re: Murphy/Dougall Cookstown
Hi Den
I believe that your Eleanor Dougall is probably the sister of my husbands great grandmother Margaret Dougall b1849, Killycurragh, Tyrone, Ireland. Her parents are Thomas Dougall & Elisabeth Glasgow. Margaret married a James Glasgow in the Orritor Presbyterian Church 29 June 1875, before sailing to New Zealand, when they settled & raised 11 children.
I have recently discovered another sister Sarah Dougall who married John Wesley Stott in 1866 Cookstown, Tyrone, they emigrated to Gympie, Queensland, Australia, 16 children all born in Gympie.
Also a family in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, USA, Jane Deniker, nee Dougall, wrote a letter to her Aunt Margaret & cousins in New Zealand, in 1942, it also mentions her cousin Wesley Stott. Jane married Oscar Deniker. Janes parents are Glasgow Dougall & Salina Campbell. Finding Glasgow Dougall's death record 18 Jun 1937 Pennsylvania, (born in Ireland, although census records say Scotland) his parents are George Glasgow Doregall (Dougall) & Nancy Jane Ferguson. I would be fairly confident that George Glasgow Dougall is a son of Thomas & Elisabeth Dougall.
I hope this information is useful
