BYRNE, COWMAN, ENNIS
I’m trying to locate my mum’s surviving relatives. Her family name is BYRNE. Her father, MATHEW BYRNE, was born on 15/12/1910. According to the 1911 Census when he was only 3 months old, he was living with his parents, CHARLES BYRNE and CLARE (nee ENNIS) in SHAMROCK AVENUE, RATHMINES. He had a brother JOHN BYRNE who was 2 years older than him so was born c1909. After the 1911 census date CHARLES and CLARE had 3 more children, GEORGE, ALICE and EDWARD.

Mum’s mother was named either KATHLEEN or CATHERINE COWMAN. In 1911 KATHLEEN lived with her parents MICHAEL and MARGRET (who were both born in WEXFORD) her sister ANNIE and her brother JOHN. KATHLEEN and her brother and sister were born in DUBLIN CITY. KATHLEEN was born on 01/03/1909. The COWMAN family lived in WATKINS COTTAGES in the MERCHANT’S QUAY ward in the parish of ST. LUKES.

Mum had 2 sisters and 1 brother. SHEILA BYRNE b 19/04/1944, NUALA BYRNE b 15/12/1936 and DESMOND JOSEPH BYRNE b 13/10/1940. They grew up in FRANCIS STREET and CURLEW ROAD.

KATHLEEN (Catherine) died on 11/05/1951 and MATHEW died on 05/08/1952.

The children, SHEILA, who would have been 8 years old and DESMOND 12, were sent to live with their (Paternal I think) Grandmother in ARDEE STREET. I don’t know what happened to NUALA who would have been 16 at that time.

If any of these people feature in your family history can you please get in touch.
Best regards
